Funny The Way It Is…
Today, I set out to run a 10 miler. Funny the way it is, that 10 miler didn’t happen. I sure tried thats for sure.
Samantha and I took the train over to Prospect Park and our plan was 1 loop in the park then out and over to Ocean Parkway down to my boardwalk. Yes, I partly own the boardwalk because I love it. So that makes me part owner by default.
So, we completed 1 loop stopping a few times for water and stretching. All week long I was thinking about whether or not I would bring a GEL or GU for energy and at the last minute just decided on a bottle of water. Yeah, not good. I sure could have used some energy to finish the run. Funny the way it is.
It was hot too. About 68-69 degrees with the sun shinning. I was able to drink 2 full bottles of water but that just wasn’t enough. Once on Ocean Parkway I kept on running and running and was getting nowhere fast. I felt kinda low on energy and when I hit 8 miles I thought I was done. Funny the way it is.
I had it in me to run 1/2 more and ended with 8.5 miles for the day. I will say this though, I have no pain. No fucking pain in my shin. How can that even be? It’s kind of perplexing to me that 3 weeks ago it hurt to even walk on it. And I had crepitus. ODD! Oh and funny the way it is.
I want to share with you some twitter responses I got today from some runner friends of mine:
Don’t get down, you will have good days and bad. It hurts but keep at it and you will be proud of yourself!
Don’t beat yourself up. At least you ran 8.5; that’s good!
Not a fail! An 85% achievement!
Don’t beat yourself up. There must be a reason why. Learn from it.
8.5 miles is a fail in no-one’s book.
So take it easy and enjoy your race. Take walk breaks if you have to. I do. Run should be fun. Right? 😉
8.5 is better than 0 and still impressive to me.

Lighten up! Three weeks back you were getting an MRI. You rocked 8.5 and next week you’ll rock 13.1 :0)
It took the words of total strangers on twitter to get me to where I was happy with my run today. So thank you guys. I love you!
