Persistence Running & Stuff.

Thoroughly blew my mind! And, my mind is not blown easily!
So, yesterday I had a pretty awesome run. It was neither fast nor epic in mileage but somehow, it felt like it. It was just a Sunday longish run of 8 miles.
I ran this with Samantha which made a ton of difference. I seem to prefer running long with a friend. Mostly for the motivation and camaraderie that ensues. The run seems to fly by.
I love to run. I am not a Kenyan nor am I a fast runner. I am not an elite runner nor will I ever be. In fact, I am hardly a really good runner either. But, who cares? I am still a runner and I am proud to be a part of such an amazing community. I have never met a runner I didn’t like. Seriously! If they exist I have yet to find them.
I love everything about running. From the ritualistic way I get ready for my runs, to the walk to my boardwalk, to the little stretch routine I do, oh and that first left – right – left making myself propel forward as the wind blows through my hair. What a freaking way to start the day. Come on, I am tempting you here, my friends. Incredible.
So the 8 miles went down like this:
Ran 4 straight miles without stopping and then took a quick GU/WATER break. After I hit mile 5 I walked for 1 minute. After I hit mile 6 I walked for 1 minute. After I hit mile 7 I walked for more than 1 minute and also stopped at the water fountain to gulp down water. Mile 7 to mile 8 was tough because I knew it was the last mile, yet I was quickly running out of steam. Samantha got me though it by encouraging me and not letting me stop.
Stats:
8 miles 1.31.59 11.29 min/mile
Fastest mile was mile 4 at 10.44
Now, I need to put this out to the universe. I am starting, as of today Monday July 27th, 2009 100 pushups and 200 situps programs because my upper body is pathetic. I already took the initial tests for both. I was able to do 8 good form push-ups and 40 good form sit-ups. I think this is going to be fun and I am looking forward to building up my upper body and very flabby tummy.
New kicks too. Brooks Defyance. The name fits me huh? You should check it out right here BROOKS DEFYANCE!

Sometimes, those runs that are, as you say, “neither fast nor epic in mileage,” are the best ones. You just feel so GOOD, and you remember why you kick yourself out the door when you’re feeling less motivated. Nice job on the 8-miler, and thanks for the reminder of why running’s so great!
one day, we will run together like this, and that too will be awesome 🙂
I like to think that you do live in Breezy Point, NJ. As a matter of fact, I don’t know where the hell Breezy Point is at. Anyhoo, I am glad that you have found running to be your passion. I hear ya that the running community is amazing. Truly magnificent.
Kudos to you and Samantha for doing the long run yesterday !
Good job on the long run, sister!
Thoroughly blew my mind! And, my mind is not blown easily!

Oops! Didn’t mean to publish that comment twice!
I must’ve been out of my
penismind!Hahahaha, “good form” pushups… I’m yet to find out what those are. I’ve heard of that challenge and have been wanting to do it, but I keep finding new excuses not to do it!!!! GOOD LUCK!
100 pushups would be AMAZING!! Nice work on getting the 8 miles in. It looks like you went on a really fun route!
It is always true that life is always surprising! The best ones are those whom we think are not that surprising. Yet in the end, we find ourselves more motivated! Thank you for this post! Running is wonderfully woven to one’s passionate heart that is always dreaming and great.
